Have you got a problem UTI? Harrogate Urology can help you to feel like yourself again

A mild urinary tract infection is often nothing to worry about and will likely clear up on its own within a few days. If your symptoms don’t clear up quickly, however, or they return after treatment, it is always best to seek medical advice to help you on your way to feeling your normal self again as quickly as possible.

What are the symptoms of a UTI?

The symptoms of a UTI can vary depending on the person. The most common symptoms include pain or a burning sensation when you pass water and an increase in the frequency and urgency of your bathroom trips. Some UTIs also result in cloudy urine or the presence of blood; this should always be reported to a doctor. A UTI can also cause serious and unwelcome disruption to your sleeping patterns; so if you’ve had symptoms for more than a couple of days or get UTIs often, it is always best to get checked out.

Testing for UTI’s

Urinary tract infections can affect many different areas including the bladder, urethra and kidneys. The majority of UTIs can be easily treated with courses of antibiotics to treat the underlying infection, however, if you have regular UTIs, it may be necessary to complete a few tests to check for any underlying conditions. If investigations are deemed appropriate, these often include urine dipsticks, cystoscopies and ultrasounds.

Sometimes the extra investigations might not be necessary, and here at Harrogate Urology we will always suggest what we feel is the best course of action to treat your urinary disorders. There are many tricks and strategies that can help to reduce the frequency of UTIs, including regularly drinking cranberry juice or taking prophylactic antibiotics. In some cases, it is even possible for the patient to keep a supply of antibiotics at home for them to start taking in the case of them developing a urinary tract infection.
